Volker Foos is a Health Economist with a strong expertise in decision modelling and software engineering. During his 3 years at HEOR, Volker has been involved in creating models in a wide range of diseases including, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease among other disease areas.
His experience includes model development across multidisciplinary approaches (Markov models, patient level-based simulation models and holistic population-based models) and alternative implementation technologies (MS-Excel, C++, Python, R, and Shiny).
Prior to HEOR, Volker worked for various consultancies including CORE and IQVIA where he developed and scientifically led the IQVIA CORE diabetes model. As a result, Volker has particular expertise in diabetes modelling and regularly participates in the Mount Hood Challenge, a forum for computer modelers of diabetes to discuss and compare models and to identify key future developments in the field. Volker has published his academic research in a number of respected, peer-reviewed journals including the Value Health, Pharmacoeconomics, Diabetes Therapy, Diabetes Medicine and others.
Volker completed a MSc degree at Cologne University where his research was focused on the development of a software to visualize and analyse gene expression data to identify relevant genes involved in the tumour formation of the mammary gland. Volker has also obtained two BSc degrees in biomedical engineering and health economics.
