Environmental Policy

1.0 | Aim

1.1 At Health Economics and Outcomes Research Ltd (HEOR), we are dedicated to enhancing our environmental performance and adopting best practices to minimize the environmental impact of our operations. We aim to implement strategies that mitigate environmental risks to our organization and strengthen our commitment to sustainability.

1.2 Policy aims include:

1.2.1 Implement environmental actions within our organisation

1.2.2 Monitor the environmental actions and improvements internally

1.2.3 Demonstrate leadership by working sustainably with suppliers, communicating with clients and commitment to industry-relevant environmental initiatives

2.0 | Scope

2.1 This Environmental Policy applies to all employees and contractors, both full-time and part-time, across our two onsite offices and remote working environments. It will be shared with external stakeholders including suppliers, partners, and consultants to demonstrate and encourage best practices.

3.0 | Commitment

3.1 This Environmental Policy formalises our commitment to supporting the principles of environmental sustainability and recognises that a sustainable environment is central to our organisation and the lives and the well-being of our employees, and our external stakeholders.

3.2 Internal and External Framework: We are committed to accelerating the move to a sustainable, low carbon economy and to reduce the impact to the environment from our operations.

3.3 Our commitment:

  • Promote environmental responsibility within the organization and communicate this policy at all levels.
  • Assess the environmental impact of our operations and set annual objectives and targets for improvement, with regular reviews.
  • Transparently report our environmental impact and performance through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
  • Reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year, and measure and reduce scope 3 emissions.
  • Provide adequate resources to meet our environmental commitments.
  • Comply with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Define and communicate responsibilities to management, employees, and contractors.
  • Ensure all policies and processes complement this policy.
  • Take into account environmental considerations during the procurement and supplier onboarding process.
  • Report and maintain our environmental performance through our industry-relevant environmental initiatives, including the Science Based Targets Initiative.
  • Encourage all partners and other key stakeholders to commit to improving environmental performance.
  • Reduce our organisations use of energy and water, and minimise waste by reduction, re-use and recycling methods where possible, whether employees are working in the office or from home.
  • Encourage lower carbon transportation options and consider the necessity and mode of travel.
  • Ensure the correct level of ‘offsetting’ is in place to neutralise carbon emissions, but only as a last resort where we have been unable to avoid carbon intensive activities, operate more efficiently or replace or mitigate any residual emissions.

3.4 Demonstrating commitment:

At HEOR, we are committed to driving meaningful climate action and advancing our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. Our near-term emissions reduction target has been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligning with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. We have pledged to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 43% by 2030, using 2023 as our base year.

In addition to our climate commitments, we actively measure and improve our ESG impact through globally recognised frameworks such as EcoVadis and the Climate Disclosure Programme (CDP).

4.0 | Additional actions:

  • Promote environmental responsibility within the organization and communicate this policy at all levels.
  • Work with environmental specialists as required.

6.0 | Our employees will:

  • Be familiar with the environment impact and requirements relevant to their own role and activities and take responsibility for their own impact on the environment.

7.0 | Our suppliers and clients will:

  • Provide their own environmental policies to our organisation to demonstrate their carbon footprint and carbon reduction targets, where possible
  • Work closely with HEOR to align with our sustainable values and vision.

8.0 | Responsibility and review:
