Real world data (RWD) has become a buzz phrase in all things research related. Here, we give some thoughts to the exciting potential of using RWD, the challenges that may be associated with it, and
how to overcome these challenges. We illustrate with published examples of where using RWD has generated beneficial information on prescribing practices for therapies associated with smoking cessation medications and its relationship with mental health outcomes.
