1. Please give an overview of your role at HEOR?

As director I have overall responsibility for leadership of the Value Communication team, which includes the medical writing and creative design teams. I like to think that we are the hub of the business because everything revolves around communication. I guide the team, provide strategic oversight and nurture our client partnerships.

2. What first attracted you to work in this field?

I had been in academia for a long time, a PhD followed by many years of post-doctoral research into the molecular genetics of leukaemia at Oxford University. I wanted to stay in the science/medicine sector, but needed a new challenge. I really enjoyed writing and communication, so I took the plunge and joined a market access consultancy as a medical writer and have never looked back!

3. What motivated you to join HEOR?

I was working in a big market access consultancy when the opportunity to join HEOR arose. I really engaged with the values at HEOR – the focus is on innovation and quality rather than maximum profit. I also love that HEOR have offices and encourage in-person collaboration and engagement, I think that is so important.

4. What is your greatest achievement at work since
joining HEOR?

Gosh that’s a difficult one, I think the most satisfying thing is having a happy, engaged team who achieve great results and enjoy what they do.

5. How do you think your team works best for the client?

Listening, understanding, challenging and delivering to the highest standard. We want our clients to say “wow” and be blown away with our work!

6. How would you best describe the HEOR culture?

Maybe a bit geeky, definitely creative, professional, grounded, inclusive and supportive.

7. How would you describe what you do, to people who
may not have heard of market access / HEOR sector?

As a business we fully support our pharmaceutical and med-tech clients to bring their innovative new therapies to market and make them available to patients. In my team we are passionate about communication. We take complex data and/or concepts and find the best way to communicate it, so that it reaches the right audience. I love visual communication – there is nothing more satisfying than seeing something come to life through great narrative and impactful design.

8. What is your favourite thing to do when you’re
not working?

I’m quite an active person and like nature and the outdoors. I play competitive netball, take agility classes with my dog Barney and enjoy hacking through the countryside on horse back. I also like to socialise with friends and colleagues, and I love dancing!

9. What’s your favourite famous or inspirational quote?

“A day without laughter is
a day wasted”

– Winnie-the-Pooh
