Life at HEOR

Arti Garrick

1. Please give an overview of your role at HEOR?

As Director of Health Economics, I head up a team of over 20 economic modellers and 4 operational researchers – providing strategic oversight, thought leadership and best practice examples to ensure we’re delivering high-quality, relevant solutions to our client’s decision problems. I am also responsible for the growth and development of members of the health economics and operational research teams, nurturing our client partnerships, and stimulating cross-functional collaboration and learning across our projects.

2. What first attracted you to work in this field?

After covering several health research related disciplines in my Batchelor’s degree, I developed a particular passion for health economics. Consultancy sparked my interest as it combined my love of research with a fast-paced environment and the opportunity to work with many different stakeholders. I’ve been in the field for over 15 years, and I still love the challenges and the opportunities a career in health economic consultancy brings.

3. What motivated you to join HEOR?

HEOR’s values really resonated with me – a focus on quality and the “so what?” in our work, encouraging innovation and having fun along the way. I’m excited to be part of a growing company and am motivated to share my own experiences to help us on a successful path forward.

4. What is your greatest achievement at work since
joining HEOR?

I’ve only been here a few months but there are already so many positive examples around our collaboration and deliverables I am proud to have been part of. I have been especially motivated by the opportunities to get teams together. HE team days, conferences and the recent all-staff have all been productive, insightful and fun examples of the great work we do and the achievements we all play our part in contributing to.

5. How do you think your team works best for the client?

Working alongside our clients to understand their needs and challenges and combining these with our wealth of experience in economic modelling and operational research allows us to present relevant, sometimes truly novel, solutions which highlight the economic value of our client’s products in an efficient and easy to understand way.

6. How would you best describe the HEOR culture?

Innovative, collaborative, creative and supportive.

7. How would you describe what you do, to people who
may not have heard of market access / HEOR sector?

We support our pharmaceutical and biotech clients to demonstrate the economic value of their product clearly and transparently with the overarching aim to ensure access to treatments that improve health outcomes for patients.

8. What is your favourite thing to do when you’re
not working?

Spending time with my family. Whether we are exploring the beautiful countryside around us in Yorkshire, investigating answers to all the inquisitive questions my children have, or just being silly and dancing around the kitchen – their joy, wonder and laughter is infectious!

9. What’s your favourite famous or inspirational quote?

“For every minute you are angry
you lose sixty seconds of happiness”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson
